The Longaberger Company

The Longaberger Company is a direct sales company that markets handcrafted baskets as well as home and lifestyle products like wrought iron, pottery, speciality foods and fabric accessories.

The Longaberger Company was initially founded in 1976 in Dresden, Ohio as J.W.'s Handwoven Baskets by Dave Longaberger selling his father's handmade baskets. Due to the difficulty of selling his baskets through traditional retail outlets, in 1978 The Longaberger Company got it's start as a direct sales organization. Over the years, the company has continued to be family owned and operated by Tami and Rachel Longaberger, Dave's daughters and has expanded the original product line.

The Longaberger Company offers a business opportunity as a Longaberger Home Consultant. It is possible to work full or part time and commissions of 25% are earned on all guest sales with extra earning potential created by recruiting others to become Consultants as well. There are a variety of Longaberger starter kits available and The Longaberger Company states they provide a strong network of help and support for their consultants.

The basic feeling expressed by most people is that the baskets and other products offered by The Longaberger Company are incredibly overpriced. Many people feel uncomfortable with the necessity of having someone come in to your home and engage in high pressure sales tactics to get you to buy a basket or become a consultant yourself.

It appears to me that The Longaberger Company is a well established company with a very well-known name, the fans of the company are extremely loyal and can generate repeat business.
