Melvin Powers is most famous for his mail order and publishing company. Mr. Powers has a book called - How to Get Rich in Mail Order which certainly helped the name "Melvin Powers" to become a house-hold name in mail order. These days Melvin acts as a consultant teaching his many techniques on increasing sales.

Melvin Powers is actually a big time publisher of several unique books. The name of his book publishing and distribution company is Wilshire Book Company. He's based out of Southern California. Melvin doesn't just focus on books in the sales, marketing, and mail order industries though. His books cover many topics including pets, sports, chess, bridge, and other hobbies. He even has some books on music and horses. But his true love appears to be for the mail order industry where he sells all these books.

Melvin Powers is also famous for having purchased the paperback rights to the book "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. This was a smart move in his part because he's gone on to sell millions of copies of it.

Mr. Powers also bought the paperback rights to the book "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. This one has brought Melvin sales of more than five million copies on that book alone. Melvin also published Tommy Boyce’s text- How to Write a Hit Song and Sell It. He also forayed into writing songs with Boyce and did very well on the big western music charts. He got himself an award for his song, Who Wants a Slightly Used Woman.

Melvin Powers frequents bookshops constantly with his eye out for the next big name book he could bring into his own publishing company.
